One thing that I think every single client I’ve ever worked with does; is to do everything possible to avoid feeling anxiety and challenging emotions.
It makes sense, it doesn’t feel good so why would we want to feel it?
But, this one thing is also the source of so much of our suffering. Not only mental and emotional but also physical suffering.
Anxiety and all of our emotions are trying to help us (I know it doesn’t always feel like that!), they’re trying to give us a message and the more we ignore them, the louder they’ll get.
We think avoiding feeling them will help us feel happier, but it actually keeps us from happiness.
Being able to interact with ALL of our emotions is a foundational and fundamental skill that hardly any of us are ever taught.
